“The history of his dad's determination to generate wealth for his family had a profound impact on David.”

Growing up in the Midwest, David Hawkins always thought he would be a carpenter. Upon graduation from vocational high school, he received the Craftsmanship Award and immediately started building homes. Four years later, David felt the desire for more — aptitude tests pointed him toward interior design, and he earned his degree from Kent State University.
David first learned about investing from his father, who worked as a mailman and faithfully studied the Wall Street Journal after work each day. Those conversations planted the seeds that eventually became Ask the Mailman — a book dedicated to the idea that ordinary people can build extraordinary wealth.
His mission is to help everyday people overcome their fear of investing and discover practical strategies that can create lasting financial security for themselves and future generations. A portion of the proceeds from the book supports financial literacy initiatives.

Author
Channeling his father's lessons and decades of personal investing experience, David wrote a practical, accessible guide to high-yield dividend investing and the power of compound interest. Kirkus Reviews called it "bold investment strategies."
Podcast
Launched the Ask the Mailman podcast to bring the book's lessons to life — featuring episodes on Roth IRAs, dividend investing, compound interest, and building generational wealth.
“Bold investment strategies that aren't for the risk-averse.”
Debut author Hawkins first learned about investing in stocks that paid dividends from his mailman father, who studied copies of the Wall Street Journal — hence the book's title. Anchored in the sound principle of compound interest, the author's investment strategy sometimes flies in the face of conventional wisdom.
Throughout, the author's writing is lucid, and the excellent illustrations enhance the content.

David's goal has never been to write a book for Wall Street insiders. It's to give the person who's never invested a single dollar the confidence and the roadmap to start — and to show them that time and compound interest will do the heavy lifting.
A portion of the proceeds from Ask the Mailman supports financial literacy initiatives, because David believes the best investment anyone can make is in their own education.
David teaches a focused strategy: buy stocks that pay you to hold them, then reinvest those dividends to accelerate compounding.
"Using the principle of having your money earn interest on the interest is the greatest force you can put into play to make your investments grow exponentially."
Each episode breaks down one concept from the book — practical, no-jargon investing education you can act on today.
Pick up Ask the Mailman — paperback or instant eBook — and start putting David's strategy to work for you today.
